ns%2C%20about%2075%25%20of%20whom%20favored%20the%20young%20Elvis%20over%20the%20%26ldquo%3Bold%20Elvis%26rdquo%3B%20version.%26nbsp%3B%0A%26nbsp%3B%0AHistory%20the%20stamp%20represents%3A%26nbsp%3B%0AWhen%20Clyde%20McPhatter%20joined%20Billy%20Ward%20and%20the%20Dominoes%20in%201950%2C%20he%20began%20a%20music%20career%20that%20would%20eventually%20lead%20to%20him%20becoming%20one%20of%20the%20biggest%20names%20of%20the%20rhythm%20%26amp%3B%20blues%20era.%26nbsp%3B%20In%201953%2C%20he%20left%20the%20band%20to%20form%20his%20own%20group%2C%20the%20%26ldquo%3BDrifters.%26rdquo%3B%26nbsp%3B%20That%20name%20was%20chosen%20because%20all%20the%20members%20had%20drifted%20from%20one%20group%20to%20another%20before%20joining%20together.%26nbsp%3B%20The%20Drifters%20became%20one%20of%20the%20most%20popular%20groups%20in%20the%20rhythm%20%26amp%3B%20blues%20field.%26nbsp%3B%0A%26nbsp%3B%0AAlthough%20he%20is%20best%20known%20as%20the%20leader%20of%20the%20Drifters%2C%20McPhatter%20actually%20recorded%20most%20of%20his%20best%20work%20as%20a%20solo%20artist.%26nbsp%3B%20He%20went%20into%20the%20Army%20in%201955%2C%20and%20the%20following%20year%20was%20discharged.%26nbsp%3B%20However%2C%20rather%20than%20returning%20to%20the%20Drifters%2C%20he%20chose%20instead%20to%20concentrate%20on%20working%20as%20a%20soloist.%20%26nbsp%3BHis%20recordings%20of%20%26ldquo%3BSeven%20Days%26rdquo%3B%20and%20%26ldquo%3BTreasure%20of%20Love%26rdquo%3B%20became%20national%20pop%20hits%2C%20and%20helped%20him%20gain%20acceptance%20among%20white%20audiences%2C%20as%20well%20as%20the%20traditional%20rhythm%20%26amp%3B%20blues%20audience.%0A%26nbsp%3B%0AIn%201958%2C%20he%20achieved%20his%20greatest%20success%20with%20his%20recording%20of%20%26ldquo%3BA%20Lover%26rsquo%3Bs%20Question%26rdquo%3B%2C%20which%20climbed%20to%20the%20number%20one%20spot%20on%20the%20U.S.%20singles%20chart%2C%20selling%20more%20than%20one%20million%20copies.%26nbsp%3B%20He%20toured%20widely%20during%201958%20and%201959%2C%20and%20in%201968%20his%20albums%20were%20re-released%20in%20England%20as%20part%20of%20a%20rock%20%26ldquo%3Brevival.%26rdquo%3B%0A%26nbsp%3B%0A%26nbsp%3B
