The band was so energetic live in fact that they were banned from their hometown of Washington, DC due to rowdy shows and were forced to move to New York. They became regulars at CBGB's and made one of their most notable recordings there, their self-titled ROIR tape. They continued on with an ever-in flux lineup and made more and more classic records for various labels like SST and Caroline, like I Against I and Quickness.
